Прикладная наука, исследующая задачи реального создания сложных управляющих систем (в первую очередь в экономике), а также основанных на ЭВМ сложных справочно-информационных систем, автоматизации проектирования, систем для автоматического сбора и обработки экспериментальных данных и т.п. Процесс построения системы в соответствии с принципами С. распадается на шесть фаз: системный анализ, включающий, в частности, оценку определения потребностей и возможностей для улучшения постановки дела и т.д.; системное программирование, которое включает определение текущих целей на основе вариантов, выявленных в результате анализа потребностей и возможностей, составление графиков и планов работы; системное проектирование — реальное проектирование системы, ее подсистем и компонентов для достижения оптимальной эффективности и оптимальной экономичности; изготовление оборудования системы и программ математического обеспечения, которые будут использованы в системе; ввод системы в действие и ее проверка, устранение дефектов; обслуживание системы, включающее непрерывное поддержание системы в том виде, в каком она была спроектирована и введена в действие, а также ее корректировку в зависимости от изменений условий и накопления опыта.
